Higgs Boson Discovered

The great thing about science is that it makes predictions that can be tested, the results of which either disprove or leading credence to, various theories and models that describe how the universe works. One of these was the prediction that a particle known as the Higgs Boson “gives mass” to other particles (via a kind of inertial resistance in the Higgs field), and that it existed within a specific energy range of 115–130 gigaelectron volts.

Well, today came the big announcement from CERN that they had discovered, with 99.999% confidence (known as 5 Sigma confidence) of a particle that meets the predictions of the Higgs Boson particle at 125 GeV.

Here’s the video of the moment of the announcement made by CERN director Rolf Heuer.
